FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a South Florida deputy shot and wounded a fleeing suspect as the man was backing his car into the deputy.

The Sun Sentinel (https://goo.gl/4qnYk3 ) reports that a Broward Sheriff's Office crime suppression team tried to arrest the man Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Dolphin Harbor Inn Motel in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright says the man was wanted on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding authorities. When deputies approached, authorities say the man backed his car in the deputy's vehicle and struck the deputy himself. The deputy fired his gun, hitting the suspect in his upper arm.

Coleman-Wright says the suspect managed to drive away but was eventually apprehended at a Fort Lauderdale hospital.

The names and races of the deputy and suspect weren't immediately reported.
