PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A Pensacola man accused of fatally injuring his girlfriend's 2-year-old son has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder.
The State Attorney's Office said in a news release that an Escambia County grand jury indicted 26-year-old Alonzo D. Thompkins on Tuesday in connection with the death of Cornelius Savage.
Authorities say the toddler's mother found her son unresponsive on Aug. 8 after he had been home alone with Thompkins for about an hour.
The Medical Examiner's Office determined the child's death was caused by blunt force trauma to the torso.
If convicted, Thompkins faces life in prison.
It is unclear whether he has an attorney to comment on the charge.
