DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (AP) - Officials say an Indiana man has drowned and his 12-year-old son has been rescued from the ocean in Daytona Beach Shores.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1UHtFMF) the incident happened Tuesday afternoon.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Marris says someone called 911 after being concerned about how far the man and the child were from shore.

Marris says lifeguards were able to bring the child to shore around 2:15 p.m. She says rescues had to use a ski to get the father, who was about 300 yards from shore.

The 58-year-old was unresponsive when he was placed in an ambulance. Marris says he was later pronounced dead.

The man's identity hasn't been released as officials are working to notify his relatives.
