TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's legislative session is headed to overtime.
Negotiators reached a deal Tuesday night on a roughly $90 billion budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. But it had not been distributed to lawmakers as of Wednesday morning, meaning the required 72-hour review period was not yet triggered.
So instead of adjourning the 60-day session on Friday as scheduled, it will spill into Saturday. The issue is simply getting the document added up and in order.
The spending plan includes an overall increase of more than $782 million in the main public schools account compared with last year. It also includes about $682 million for environmental needs, $280 million for education construction and maintenance work and tens of millions of dollars to help the Florida Panhandle recover from Hurricane Michael.
