MONROE COUNTY, Fla. -- If you've ever thought it would be cool to live in a lighthouse, you could have a chance to make that a reality.

The U.S. government wants to unload five lighthouses off the Florida Keys.

The Coast Guard declared the lighthouses as excess, and since they are built offshore, they are difficult for them to keep up.

The 150-plus-year-old structures could go to a non-profit, but if they can't then they will go to auction.

The lighthouses on the list are:

  • Carysfort Reef (Key Largo)
  • Alligator Light (Islamorada)
  • Sombrero Light (Marathon)
  • American Shoal (Sugarloaf Key)
  • Sand Key (Key West)
