Judge definitively blocks Florida abortion law

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A federal judge has definitively blocked a Florida abortion law that prevents state funds from going to organizations that provide abortions.

U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle's ruling on Thursday comes after Florida officials agreed to drop any further legal action.

In addition to blocking state money from abortion providers, the law added inspection requirements on clinics. Planned Parenthood challenged three parts of the wide-ranging law.

Hinkle in June put a temporary hold on portions of the law while the lawsuit wounds its way through federal court. But Gov. Rick Scott's administration agreed to let Hinkle rule on the entire case now instead of holding additional hearings.

The administration could still appeal the case, but the move the state is unusual.

A spokeswoman said the Scott administration is "reviewing" its options.
