ORLANDO, Fla— Florida Governor Rick Scott is going after opioid traffickers, by signing a law that creates new penalties for trafficking synthetic opioid drugs and fentanyl.
The governor signed the measure surrounded by law enforcement officers, in Orlando. Officials from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement say the opioid epidemic is the most damning public safety crisis right now in Central Florida.
Governor Scott says this law sends the message, that Florida will not tolerate those who take advantage of vulnerable Floridians fighting this national opioid epidemic.
