JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A woman in northeast Florida has pleaded not guilty to intentionally poisoning a young girl by forcing her to take a dangerous amount of iron supplements.
According to WJAX-TV (http://bit.ly/1QX2b3y ) 38-year-old Shauna Dee Taylor entered her pleas Monday in Duval County court to charges of aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
Taylor was extradited to Jacksonville Dec. 3 after her arrest in Albany, New York.
Charges were brought against Taylor after three medical professionals said she'd intentionally poisoned the girl in 2013.
Authorities said the charges appear to be a case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which involve caretakers who purposely harm a child to gain attention or sympathy.
The child suffered liver problems but is now better.
