DUNNELLON, Fla. (AP) - A clerk in the small Florida city of Dunnellon says the city councilwoman slapped her during the annual tree lighting ceremony.
City Clerk Dawn Bowne said Councilwoman Penny Fleeger became angry during Friday's event over whether or not the city manager was allowed to speak during the ceremony and grabbed her arm and allegedly told Bowne not to mess with her. Bowne said Fleeger then slapped her three times in the face.
Fleeger apologized publicly and said she doesn't recall slapping Bowne, a 31-year city employee. She said she put her hand on the clerk's cheek.
The Ocala Star-Banner (http://tinyurl.com/otqstm7) reports the city council tied on a motion calling for Fleeger's resignation and voted unanimously to censure her at a special meeting this week.
