Body of missing 13-year-old girl found in nature preserve, medical examiner rules homicide

RIVERVIEW, Fla. - A body discovered Wednesday in a Hillsborough County nature preserve has been identified as that of a missing 13-year-old girl from Riverview, authorities said.

The Hillsborough County medical examiner has ruled the death of 13-year-old Janessa Shannon a homicide, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Janessa's body was found Wednesday, July 12, in the Triple Creek Nature Preserve at 13305 Balm Riverview Road, a sheriff's report said.

The Hillsborough sheriff's office assisted the medical examiner's office to make the identification.
