TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - No government employee or person receiving state assistance could help resettle immigrants or refugees if they're from a country where "invaders" live or train under a bill approved by a House committee.
The House Criminal Justice Committee approved the "Prevention of Acts of War" bill on a 9-4 vote Wednesday with all Republicans in favor and all Democrats opposed.
The bill declares any immigrant or refugee a "restricted person" if they come from or have been near a country the governor lists as a place where "invaders" are known to live or train. The governor would be authorized to use military force to prevent restricted people from entering or resettling in Florida.
The bill makes an exception for immigrants or refugees who were born in the Western Hemisphere.
