NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A prominent art collector's estate is giving a southwest Florida museum over 400 works of modern and contemporary art.
The Naples Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/29HbPZk ) that Olga Hirshhorn collected the works by Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Ed Ruscha and other artists in her Naples home.
The Baker Museum's director and chief curator, Frank Verpoorten, has been cataloging the artwork since Hirshhorn's death in October. He says the gift complements artwork from Hirshhorn's home in Washington, D.C., that she donated to the Naples museum in 2013.
Hirshhorn was the fourth wife of Joseph Hirshhorn, who donated his painting and sculpture collection to establish the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Verpoorten says the Washington museum will send three works to the Baker Museum for an exhibit of the new acquisitions that opens Sept. 6.
