A woman was fatally shot by her stepfather in a murder-suicide at Florida Hospital in Tampa Monday morning, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
After shooting 41-year-old Alonna Tedesco, 70-year-old Steven Eugene Reynolds of Dade City turned the gun on himself, investigators say.
Tedesco died in an emergency operating room. She was visiting her mother, who is a patient,according to Joe Delatorre, CEO of Florida Medical Clinic.
The shooting occurred around 7 a.m. in a room on the third floor of the hospital, which is located on East Fletcher Avenue at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
Deputies were on the scene about two minutes after the shooting was reported.
They quickly determined the shooting scene was limited to the one room.
There was no lockdown at the hospital and operations were not disrupted.
Tedesco was a registered nurse at Florida Medical Clinic, according to Delatorre.
Detectives are now trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
