FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A North Fort Myers motorcyclist died Thursday after investigators say he crashed into a truck while speeding on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

It happened shortly after 1pm at the intersection with Flint Drive in Fort Myers.

According to Fort Myers Police, 35-year-old  Jeffrey Dennis Jr. of North Fort Myers was driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, also known as State Road 82.  That's when a truck driven by 29-year-old Jerred Crews started to pull out onto MLK Boulevard but was unable to properly judge the motorcycle's speed.

Dennis and his motorcycle slammed into the driver-side door of the truck.  Dennis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crews was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries but is expected to survive.

Due to the speed of the motorcycle Dennis was found a fault for the crash.

If there are any other witnesses to the crash that have not already spoken with investigators, please contact Corporal Lenny Gould at 239-477-1636.
