NAPLES, Fla. - It’s a number they’ve performed twice in front of Donald Trump supporters. USA Freedom Kids, a three member pop group sang “Freedom Calls” at a Trump watch party in Naples Tuesday night, as the Republican front runner took the New Hampshire primary.
The song talks about “destroying our enemies.” Critics say the lyrics are too harsh for girls who aren’t even in middle school yet. But the group’s manager says he lifted the words from a Trump speech.
"Basically he has said, to make America great again, 'Crush your enemies.' The girls aren't telling people, basically they are reciting words from Trump and others,” said Jeff Popick.
Popick said the original song was written about famed World War II General George S. Patton. And Trump mentioned the general in one of his speeches. "He said find we are going to find General Patton. I saw that and it inspired me to change the lyrics, and make it more contemporary."
Popick’s daughter Alexis is one of the Freedom Kids. She got to meet Trump after the group’s performance in Pensacola last month. "We gave him a CD of ours and he said he would listen to it all night."
Popick says he hopes USA Freedom Kids will get to perform at a future Trump rally. He initially asked all the campaigns, Republican and Democratic if the girls could perform at their events, but only Trump’s showed serious interest.
