Single vehicle fatal crash under investigation

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers are investigating an early morning rollover crash in the South Gulf Cove section of Port Charlotte that left a passenger dead.

Florida Highway Patrol says they are unsure if alcohol played a role in the single vehicle crash, and are still investigating.

According to FHP, around 1:30 AM Friday, a Ford F-350 pickup truck was eastbound on Ingraham Boulevard when the driver attempted to turn right onto St. Paul Drive.  The truck overshot the turn and entered the grass shoulder, where it weaved back and forth before hitting a concrete culvert and overturning onto the roadway.

55-year-old passenger Owen Anders of Port Charlotte died at the scene.

The driver, 32-year-old Donald Paulsen, II seffered serious injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Another passenger, 42-year-old Richard Akers, Jr. of Port Charlotte, suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending further investigation.
