FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff's Office are on the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash that left one person dead Friday morning.
One eastbound lane of College Parkway is closed near South Point Boulevard in Fort Myers after a motorcyclist crashed into a hedge this morning.
Few details are available so far, but it appears the motorcycle was headed eastbound and went off the roadway in front of the McDonald's on College Parkway, near the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge. The operator of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike and died at the scene.
UPDATE (12:30 PM) -- FHP has identified the victim as 53-year-old Donald Powers of Cape Coral.
It is still unclear what caused him to veer off the road and go airborne after hitting the curb.
The scene has been cleared and College Parkway is fully open again.
