FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fort Myers Police continue to search for the person or people responsible for a shooting, Monday, that left a teenager wounded.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old Natyri Pitts. Pitts suffered non-life threatening injuries, after he was shot in the lower body. After being interviewed about the incident, he declined to pursue any criminal charges.
The shots rang out late Sunday night, near the intersection of Pauldo and Thomas Streets, not far from MLK Boulevard and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard.
Neighbors tell Fox 4 they heard 15 to 20 shots around 10 p.m., which they first thought to be fireworks. Witnesses on scene said they saw bullet shell casings littering the ground.
The investigation comes after gun violence in Fort Myers left three people dead and at least eight others injured in the past two weeks.
Just two weeks ago a deadly shooting shut down Summerlin Road for hours. Days later, 3 men were injured when someone opened fire in broad daylight at a Fort Myers creole restaurant.
And more recently, Pitts' 17-year old brother was shot dead and his friend injured in a drive-by shooting on Dr. Ella Piper Way.
