Police say a neighborhood resident was shot and arrived to the STARS Complex for assistance.
It happened before 4 p.m. at Pauldo Street and Edison Avenue in Fort Myers.
An ambulance later arrived to the scene.
Approximately 130 children were at the facility at the time.
Employees followed procedure by isolating the children in the gymnasium and studios for safety.
Police are searching for a suspect.
All STARS Complex activities for the rest of the evening have been canceled.
Edison Avenue has since reopened.
