FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Family and friends are paying final respects to a Fort Myers Marine who lived as he died -- in honor.
22-year-old Corporal Tommy Jardas, a graduate from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers, was among 12 U.S. Marines presumed dead after two helicopters collided off the Hawaiian coast nearly two weeks ago.
The community honored Jardas Monday afternoon at Saint Columbkille Catholic Church in South Fort Myers.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has since sent his condolences to affected families. This week he plans to order all American flags be flown at half-staff in Jardas' honor.
