LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Residents in Lee County are being warned to be aware of a possible scam involving a fake utility worker threatening to turn your water off.
According to Lee County Utilities, reports have come in of a man posing as a LCU employee, claiming to be there to turn the water off due to non-payment. They instructs the resident to pay him to avoid having the water turned off.
This is not authorized by LCU. Anyone who encounters this situation is encouraged to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Fraud Alert Hotline at 239-258-3292.
LCU says customers are notified in advance by mail for past due payments prior to field staff coming to the property to turn off water service.
If you are approached by someone demanding payment and have not received prior notification, ask for their Lee County identification or call our Customer Service Center at 239-533-8845. LCU field staff will never ask for payments in the field.
