CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Fox 4 is on water watch, keeping you up to date on the Lake Okeechobee conditions.

Earlier this month, the Army Corps of Engineers resumed pulse releases from the lake to the Caloosahatchee Estuary at the Franklin Lock and Dam.

Dry conditions and no releases in months caused the river's salinity to get too high and in need of fresh water.

However, Cape Coral leaders say the salinity is still rising and putting the ecosystem at risk.

Dry conditions are still affecting the water levels at Cape canal systems. In some areas, it is causing the aquatic vegetation to top out.

Leaders say blue green algae is present but receding in Lake Okeechobee.
