LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Southwest Florida woman says a dead pelican and several dead fish are just floating in the canal behind her home.

Tracy Carpenter lives on a canal off 5th Avenue in St. James City on Pine Island.

She says she realized something was up when she was getting ready to do laps in her pool. "I swim laps every day, so I was coming out…on the lanai to start to do my laps, and
I could smell that it smelled funny. Then I looked in the canal and I could see something floating, so I came out to get a closer look and then I saw the bird."

If you do find dead fish or other marine or wildlife, you can call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to report it.

FWC has received reports of fish kills in Lee and Collier counties in conjunction with increased red tide in the area.
