COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Florida Fish and Wildlife are investigating the death of Florida panther found along the road Tuesday.

FWC says the 1-year-old female panther was found along State Road 82 east of Corkscrew Road, between Immokalee and Lehigh Acres.

The suspected cause of death was a vehicle collision.

This is the 5th panther death in Florida this year. Four of those were due to vehicle collisions, and the other was by train collision.

The FWC says biologists gain valuable information by examining panther remains. Report injured or dead panthers to the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
