LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- After a long summer of fish kills and red tide blooms in coastal Florida waters, recent tests show the situation has calmed down this winter.

The latest Daily Sample Map for red tide from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reveals the good news.

All tests for Karenia brevis in Florida waters came back in the "not present/background" range.

However, FWC's mid-week update for February 20 reports that fish kill reports have been received in Collier County. And repiratory irritation was reported in Lee, Manatee, and Pinellas counties.
