FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Lee County Board of County Commissioners has approved improvement at Brooks Community Park.

The park, located on 50 South Road, just south of Page Field, is one of the county's oldest parks.

The improvement project will provide a shade structure for pickleball courts, new restrooms, 196 additional parking spaces, sidewalks, and plumbing improvements, the county commission says.

The park, built in 1973, has baseball and softball fields, football fields, pickleball courts, and picnic shelters. It hosts six youth athletic leagues and four adult athletic leagues, bringing in nearly 9,800 visitors in the month of December alone.

The $1.6 million project will be lead by AIM Construction Contracting.

County Commissioners say the work is expected to take about six months, weather permitting.
