CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Gopher tortoises could soon be added to the list of protected species in Cape Coral.
Today, city council members will talk about giving them the same protections burrowing owls have in the city.
Protecting this species could mean exempting activities around protection zones, give penalties to violators, and create more regulations.
The meeting is at 4:30 pm in the council chambers.
