COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Congressman Francis Rooney has announced a 2nd roundtable meeting to discuss Harmful Algae Blooms in Southwest Florida. And this one will be able to be seen by the public.
The meeting will be Friday, May 10th at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naples, and will be open to the press and broadcast live on Facebook.
The purpose is to gather information and discuss the effects of Harmful Algal Blooms on human and sea life. Participants will include Captains for Clean Water, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation and other community partners.
The announcement comes after criticism that a similar meeting on Tuesday will not be open to the press or public.
“I am thankful that Southwest Florida has many partners working to address the water issues facing our community. Friday’s event has been planned from the beginning to complement Tuesday’s event and to incorporate a more community-based group of leaders," says Rooney. "Unlike Tuesday, it is amenable to media participation. Our algae issues will require much work and ongoing communication to resolve - and our community is vital to our success. We all have a shared interest in protecting our community from the damaging effects of HABs, and in working together to fix our water.”
