MARCO ISLAND, Fla. -- Police say several people have been ticketed for light violations during sea turtle nesting season on the beach.

The Marco Island Police Department says since the start of May, they've investigated 45 cases of people not turning off their lights during turtle nesting season.

The lights can deter turtles from laying their eggs.

Police say six were repeat offenders.

Police also say people could face a fine of up to $5,000 depending on the situation.
