Police surround house after shots fired

UPDATE -- The SWAT situation is over and police have taken the suspect into custody.  No injuries were reported in the incident.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- There is a heavy police presence in the area of Henderson Avenue north of MLK Boulevard at a SWAT situation with a person barricaded in his home.

Witnesses on scene are saying a man fired numerous shots at police, before he fled to his home barricading himself inside.  A spokesperson for the Fort Myers Police Department tells us that no officers were hit or injured.  

Witnesses say people ran from the house when the man entered it and authorities believe the man is alone inside the home.  

Police tell us the subject is having an emotional crisis and the SWAT team and negotiators are speaking with him hoping to end the standoff.

As a precaution several blocks have been evacuated in the area near Henderson Avenue and MLK Boulevard in Fort Myers.  Police are asking people to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
