Andrew Norris, 27, of Tampa, the motorcyclist, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with a gunshot wound, according to Tampa Police Department.
The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. at mile marker 38.6, near Kennedy Boulevard, between three motorcyclists and a large SUV, police said.
The motorcyclists told police the SUV cut them off, and the events in the above video followed. Then, after crossing the Howard Frankland bridge, the group of motorcyclists and the SUV pulled over near the Kennedy exit ramp.
After a brief altercation, the driver of the SUV got a gun from inside the vehicle and opened fire, hitting one of the motorcyclists in the ankle.
The SUV driver then got back in the vehicle and drove off, crashing into another vehicle as he left the scene. Police described this crash as minor.
With only one side of the story, TPD spokesman Steve Hegarty says the agency hopes tips will lead officers to the driver. As of right now no one is facing charges.
“We need to know exactly what happened. We’re not talking charges for anyone until we know exactly what happened, so that’s one of the reasons we want to talk to whoever it was in the SUV,” Hegarty said.
TPD said the SUV is likely a maroon or red Ford Edge. (This is an update to a previous report that it may have been a GMC Yukon.) If you recognize the driver or the SUV, please contact police immediately
