LEE COUNTY, Fla., - A Southwest Florida man is now in custody after he allegedly exchanged gunfire with a Lee County deputy Wednesday night in Pine Manor.
Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on sixth avenue around 7pm between a woman and her ex-boyfriend. Neighbors telling Four In Your Corner they heard 7 or 8 gunshots.
When deputies arrived, they exchanged gunfire with Rones Sagesse, 24, who was shot in the leg before slipping away, sparking a huge search that shut down the neighborhood through the early morning hours.
A woman who lives on Maple St. tells Fox4 that Sagesse knocked on her door around 3am. She looked through her window and saw Sagesse sitting on her porch chair. That's when she called deputies who arrived a short while later and arrested him.
The deputies involved in the exchange of gunfire were not hurt.
Sheriff Mike Scott praised the deputies involved in a statement saying, "The effort of manpower and resources put forth to remove this thug from our streets further demonstrates the resolve of the LCSO."
