Community helps family of man killed in crash

Posted

There's been an outpouring of support for the family of a Naples man killed in a head-on collision Saturday night on Golden Gate Boulevard. Cecil Riner and his wife Jessica, both 33, were on their way to a Christmas party at the hospital where Jessica works when they were involved in the crash that took Cecil's life. Jessica suffered a broken hand.

John McLaughlin, assistant store manager at the Lowe's on U.S. 41, said that he will always remember his boss Cecil, who was the store's manager, for his positive attiutude.

"At the store, or time with his family, coaching football with his kids...everything that he did, he just met with such enthusiasm," McLaughlin said.

Counselors have been talking with grief-stricken employees, but McLaughlin said they all know that the real loss is being felt at home with Jessica and their four boys.

"Just a true loss for everybody involved," McLaughlin said.

A GoFundMe acount has been set up to help the Riner family, and donations are also being collected at mason Classical Academy in Naples, where three of the boys attend school.

Rene Miles, 40, was arrested in connection with the crash. FHP investigators believe alcohol was a factor. His first court appearance will be Tuesday.
