One dead in Placida boat crash Sunday morning

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Englewood man died and two others were injured early Sunday morning after two boats collided near Placida.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife, the crash happened at 4:40 AM in Placida Harbor.

23-year-old Dylan Gonzalez of Englewood died from his injuries in the crash.

FWC says Gonzalez was riding in a 19-foot boat driven by 29-year-old William Pfannkuch of Port Charlotte when the crash happened.  Pfannkuch was also injured.

Their boat collided with a 20-foot boat driven by 20-year-old Dalton Reas of Wauchula.  That vessel had 4 other passengers, one of whom was injured - 21-year-old Rachel Coker.

The crash is still under investigation, and the State Attorney's Office has been notified.

It was unknown if alcohol was a factor.
