PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- One person is dead after a single car crash in Charlotte County that troopers say was alcohol-related.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened on U.S. 17/Duncan Road around 7:40 p.m. Sunday.
Troopers say the car was northbound on Duncan Road just past the Shell Creek bridge, approaching Taralane Drive, when it drifted into the median.
The driver swerved back onto the roadway and overcorrected, losing control of the car as it hit a wooden utility pole. the car then caught fire with the driver still inside.
The medical examiner is still working to positively identify the driver.
