The officer who shot and killed 73-year-old Mary Knowlton during a Police Citizens Academy had a meeting with the city's Human Resources Department Wednesday to determine his fate as a Punta Gorda Police officer.

Officer Lee Coel is charged with manslaughter after the shooting death of Knowlton.

Coel was at City Hall for his meeting with Human Resources for about 40 minutes. Four in Your Corner was the only station there as Coel went into his meeting, but he would not comment on any questions asked. As he left the meeting, we asked Coel about the outcome of the meeting, but he did not respond.

The City Manager said it will be a few days before they disclose Coel's future with the Department.

Both Coel and Police Chief Tom Lewis are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. Chief Lewis is facing a misdemeanor culpable negligence charge in the death of Knowlton.
