SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A security guard was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly pointed a high-powered laser at several planes approaching Lindbergh Field and a San Diego police helicopter.

Just before 10 p.m., the FAA notified local law enforcement about a blue laser beam striking some airplanes looking to land at San Diego International Airport.

A beam also struck SDPD’s ABLE helicopter, which had been deployed to search for the source of the laser.

Sheriff’s deputies eventually found that the laser was coming from a parking lot in the 900 block of Sweetwater Road in Spring Valley.

Deputies arrested a security guard and recovered the blue laser device.

The security guard could face felony charges over the laser strikes.
