COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the death of his mother in East Naples late Sunday night.
Yuzo Nishi was being booked into the Collier County jail Monday morning on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Maria Bertalmio.
Detectives with the Collier County Sheriff's Office said Nishi killed Bertalmio inside the single-wide trailer they shared in Sunny Acres Mobile Village, in the 6300 block of Radio Road.
Deputies were called to the residence around 9:20 p.m. Sunday regarding a medical call. When deputies arrived they discovered Bertalmio dead inside the living room area.
"It's upsetting to everybody," said Phyllis Thompson, who lives in Sunny Acres. "Even my neighbors are like, 'how did this happen? Why did this happen?'"
Further investigation by detectives revealed Nishi was responsible for his mother’s injuries. Additional findings, including cause of death, are pending an autopsy.
An investigation continues.
