FORT MYERS, Fla. -- More details are just coming into the newsroom after a motorcyclist crashed and was killed in Fort Myers Tuesday.
It happened just before 6:30pm on McGregor Boulevard at Tulane Drive, which is right near San Carlos Boulevard.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 39-year-old David Schmitt of Fort Myers was driving his motorcycle on McGregor Boulevard when a minivan drove out in front of him. The motorcycle hit the side of the SUV before falling over.
Schmitt died at the scene from his injuries. He was wearing a helmet.
No word on if the driver of the minivan, a 77-year-old Fort Myers resident, is facing any charges.
