CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A police report says 18-year-old Derek Jeunegens threw bananas at his girlfriend after physically assaulting her.
According to the report, she says he, "Woke her up wanting her to buy him "detox" because he is on probation and wanted his pee to test clean."
It's an act of selfishness that's disturbing to neighbor Sandra Monroe. "Very selfish of them just to be thinking of themselves, ya know', how I can cover it up ? You know, you break the law, you break the law."
Police say Jeunegens went on to break the law inside of a NW 9th street home. The report says "Jeunegens then began choking her approximately five times. She stated that she did not lose consciousness however she was not able to breathe due to her airway being restricted." And he wasn't done. In the report, "Jeunegens slammed the back of her head against the wall, slapped her face and pulled her hair."
Neighbors were surprised when they heard the news. "It's still a good neighborhood, but once in a while there's these anomalies and people lose sight of what neighborhood values and community values are," one neighbor told Fox 4's Malcolm Johnson.
Towards the end of the report, things start to get a little bananas. As police viewed a video recorded by the girlfriend where they say, "Jeunegens threw bananas at her which, she stated struck her. Jeunegens also throws her metal comb at her twice, each time narrowly missing her."
Turns out alcohol was in his system when the fight happened. "If you want to find trouble, you'll find it in a bottle," said a neighbor named Jim.
