FORT MYERS, Fla-- Women Protective Services, based out of Tampa hosted a women only conceal carry class for the first time in Fort Myers Saturday afternoon. Dozens of women attended the sold out class in order to become one step closer to getting their conceal weapons carry license.

“We had a lot of interest from women but they didn’t want to get into classes with men in it for other various reasons whether they felt intimated or they just didn’t feel comfortable around men to take the class,” said chief instructor Jesse Fox.

The majority of women found out about it through Facebook.

“I’m from Lehigh and a single parent and it’s definitely something that sparks interest to have the go forward with the concealed weapons permit rather than just the knowledge of shooting and having the license,” said Jackie Mendres.

The 4-hour class starts off with basics like how to hold a gun and how to properly store and clean it. Then the group learns about gun laws before heading to a local gun range to shoot.

“The program was made to empower women to protect not only themselves but their loved ones, husbands, children and anyone else around them,” said assistant chief instructor Greg Miceli.

Women Protective Services said they plan to host the same class in Ft.Myers sometime in June.
