The Collier County Sheriff's Office is looking for two men who stole checks out of rent check deposit boxes in three different locations.
Surveillance video shows two men stealing from the deposit box at Berkshire Reserve in Naples. You can see one man walk up to the box, pull out a long device, and jimmy it in. Seconds later, he's able to reach into the box and pull out multiple checks before stashing them in his pocket and walking off with his accomplice.
"We don't recognize them at all," Arianna Tang, who lives at Berkshire Reserve and worked for the property, told Fox 4. "We don't know who they are. They look young."
They put up the surveillance cameras and lights and even have a gate around their property to prevent crimes like this from happening.
They've since permanently closed their check deposit box and are asking people who live there to hand-deliver their checks to staff in the office.
"It's the best way. You know it's secure. It's in their hand. It's in the box. It's in the safe. So you don't have any problems after that," Tang said.
Collier County deputies also linked the pair of crooks to a similar crime at Southwind Village just three miles away.
"It's not safe in the neighborhood, then!" Michelle Jennings said.
"{If it was my money in the box} I'd be very disturbed. Very disturbed, because we work hard for our money," Angela Rodriguez said. "I hope they get what they deserve and get caught."
The men also stole from the rent check deposit box at Pikus Property Management.
