SWFL residents rush to buy last minute Powerball tickets

Posted

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla-- On Saturday, people throughout Southwest Florida rushed to buy last minute Powerball tickets. Lottery officials said the $435 million jackpot is the 10th largest in U.S. history.

“It’s been a rainy day, but we’ve had a lot of people coming in wanting Powerball tickets,” said Sheila Ping.

Ping works at the Chevron gas station across from the Mercato in Naples. She said business started to pick up after no one won the jackpot during Wednesday night's Powerball drawing.

In the 1 in 292.2 million chance you were to win what would you do with the money? 4 In Your Corner asked that very question to customers buying a ticket inside the Naples Chevron on Saturday.

"I would go to Vietnam and probably take my whole entire family and then get my mom out of a rehab center,” said resident Mark.

"Probably move out to Oregon and have a family homestead,” said resident Kelly Durham.

No matter what dreams and plans people were making before Saturday night's drawing, Sheila Ping said she had 1 rule for those buying a ticket from her.

"A lot of people that tell me, 'if I hit the lottery I’m going to come back in and buy you a car or I’m going to come in, we are going on vacation' so I’m waiting on that person to come in,” said Ping.
