NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A small plane had to make an emergency landing on Alligator Alley Monday.
The Naples Daily News reports that the single-engine plane lost power and landed Monday morning on the Alligator Alley section of Interstate 75.
Florida Highway Patrol says 49-year-old William James McKay was flying the aircraft from Key West to Okeechobee, with a final destination of Orlando. McKay lives in the Orlando suburb of Maitland.
FHP says there were no injuries or property damage. The plane was initially moved to the median and then towed to a nearby rest area. McKay hired a company to detach the wings and take the aircraft back to Orlando.
An FAA investigation into what caused the 1975 Grumman AA-5 Bravo to lose power is expected to take several months.
