A fired police officer who was charged in a deadly shooting at a citizens academy class will not get his job back.
The city of Punta Gorda rejected Lee Coel's appeal, claiming it had every reason to fire him.
Coel was let go in March 2017, after being charged with first-degree manslaughter.
He is accused of shooting and killing retired librarian, Mary Knowlton, with a gun that was supposed to be loaded with blank bullets in August 2016.
Police Chief Tom Lewis will stand trial in June on a culpable negligence charge in the case.
