PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Vehicular Homicide charges have been filed after investigators say a man intentionally backed his SUV into the path of a motorcyclist in February, killing the driver.
Florida Highway Patrol says that on February 1st, 61-year-old Stephen Lawrence backed his SUV from the driveway of his Fireside Street home, traveling across the road and onto the grass shoulder as 43-year-old Aaron Wesley was approaching on a motorcycle.
The motorcycle hit the rear of the SUVand Wesley, who was not wearing a helmet, fell onto the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After months of investigating by FHP, Lawrence was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, defined as the killing of a human being, caused by the operation of a motor vehicle by another in a reckless manner likely to cause the death of, or great bodily harm to another.
