UPDATE (10:45PM) -- Cape police say an overnight investigation in northeast Cape Coral involved a man who was shot and injured.
According to Cape Coral Police, around 10:30 pm, a man called to say he was shot and immediately hung up. Officers responded to the 1900 block of NE 24th Avenue to investigate and learned that the victim arrived at a fireworks stand on Pine Island Road, about 3 miles away.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers at the 24th Avenue location found blood on the driveway, then cleared the residence and detained a man and woman from the home. The two people who were detained, one senior woman and her son, who live in the home, told Fox 4 they were shocked and confused when police approached the home. "We didn't hear gunshots or anyone pull up to the driveway," said the homeowners. "I was so nervous and so scared because I didn't know what was going on."
The family was cleared and released after questioning and a search of the home. They suspect the victim was shot elsewhere, and then somehow ended up on their property. Neighbors in the area did not hear any gunshots at the time either. "We're just family people. We bought this home about a year ago, so we were just shocked," said the son of the homeowner.
The investigation continues.
Detectives do not believe this to be a random incident and do not believe there to be a danger to the public at-large.
