CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Cape Coral Police are looking for four men who they say fired shots in a residential neighborhood, Monday evening.

Around 5 P.M., officers responded to Southeast 4th Place, off 47th Terrace, after reports of multiple shots heard on the street. They say a a black car drove northbound up onto a grass area, struck a sign, and then a man got out and picked up a pistol he dropped out the window.

The car sped off north onto Country Club Boulevard.

"I thought I heard fireworks, but I wasn't sure," said one neighbor. "The car came in the wrong way and started shooting."

Another neighbor on the street, who goes by the name Skippy, reacted immediately by protecting his 7-year-old son. "I threw him on the ground and covered him with my body, and we marine crawled into the bathroom and I locked him in there," the father said.

After his son was safe in the bathroom, Skippy ran outside to see if anyone needed help, but no one did. 

Officers found multiple areas of one home struck with bullets, and appeared to be the target. Multiple shell casings were also found along the west side of the roadway. Detectives do not believe this was a random incident.

Witnesses stated that a total of 4 male subjects were in the vehicle one black subject with dread locks was front passenger, a white male with a "toboggan" hat driving, and two white males in back.
