CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Operation Blue Roof program in Port Charlotte will be closed at 6 p.m. on October 3.
Operation Blue Roof is based at Lowes Home Improvement in Port Charlotte and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
This is a free service to homeowners with homes that are primary residences or permanently occupied rental properties.
Charlotte County will resume distributing free tarps starting on October 7 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Charlotte County Administration Center at 18500 Murdock Circle in Port Charlotte.
Each vehicle may receive two 20-foot-by-25-foot tarps to homeowners who have sustained less than 50 percent of structural damage to their roofs.
Tarps will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone.
