CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A single-car crash early Wednesday morning took the life of a North Port man after troopers say he lost control of his car.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Brian Otero was headed westbound on State Road 776/South McCall Road near State Road 771 when the crash happened at 2:26 a.m.

Troopers say Otero change lanes before driving into a left turn lane, crossing the grassy median into the eastbound lanes, and hitting a concrete curb.  The car continued across the sidewalk and onto the far shoulder before rotating, overturning, and hitting some trees.

Otero was thrown from the car and landed on the ground.

He was taken to Englewood Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol results are pending.
